COST …many say are prices are very good …a few say they are high, they are not, as the time it takes to grow them here is longer for a quality plant. PS: we founded the Maine Rhodo Society and are slowly turning our wonderful property into a rhodo haven. Rest assured, Eastern has never done that, 30 years in the business shows it. They take longer to grow here in Maine resulting in a tougher, hardier, more adaptable plant …yes I keep saying that but it is true! Sadly, too many inferior varieties of rhodos have been sold and promoted elsewhere, and that may have discouraged some. Growing them in flats makes for a healthier plant …the roots will adapt. When you buy those grown in deep pots, the plants will stress out once planted, as the deeper roots will die–often killing the plant. We grow them in flats that over winter outside-why flats …because rhodo roots are shallow. They offer year round beauty not just in bloom. All are tested for ten, twenty, thirty years to make sure they are garden worthy–no other nursery does that. There are hundreds better & that’s what we offer …varieties with superb foliage, later or earlier blooming, in colors and textures that give year round interest and hardiness. You won’t find these selections any where else-these are not common unreliable varieties found at big box stores that might be cheap but rarely live. Eastern is now one of the longest lasting East coast nurseries growing rhodos! Ours are grown here in Maine, zone 5, from day one and they winter over outside so they are tough! They are exposed to the real world unlike greenhouse grown rhodos. EASTERN AND OUR PHILOSOPHY OF ONLY THE BEST HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME SEVERAL NURSERIES THAT WERE, ARE OUT OF BUSINESS. FROM DAY ONE, EASTERN WAS NEVER PART OF THAT TREND. AND IT HAS TURNED OFF MANY PEOPLE TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF RHODOS. OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS TONS OF INFERIOR RHODOS HAVE BEEN MARKETED, PROMOTED AND SOLD. OUR RHODODENDRONS …ONLY THE BEST! LET US CONVINCE YOU WHY THEY ARE HARDIER & MORE ADAPTABLE THAN ANY OTHER RHODOS! FOR ALL GARDENERS IN NEW ENGLAND, THE MID ATLANTIC TO THE MIDWEST. THERE ARE MORE THAN LISTED …KEEP COMING BACK …MUCH MORE TO FOLLOW…INQUIRE Here a few pictures of what you will see in Georgetown. If you are coming to visit us or anywhere in Georgetown remember there are no gas stations in town, so fill up first. We have one general store in town and the Five Islands take out late spring thru early fall. The most famous areas of Georgetown are Reid State Park and Five Islands. As you drive route 127 you will pass many scenic vistas. Unlike many of the peninsulas and coastal towns, it is not in any way ruined by development or tacky tourist traps. There are roughly a thousand people in Georgetown, more in summer. Still, the coastal areas of Maine are milder than inland. The cold winds blow from the north and west. But since the water is mostly to the south of land, the moderating effect is not as dramatic as you might think. You might think all that water helps moderate the temps in winter, making it easier on plants. There are many peninsulas that jut into the water, each one is different, with its own character. I would say that mid coast is where the real beauty of Maines coast starts to shine. Generally, mid coast is the area from Brunswick (on the west) to Camden (on the east). Georgetown, Maine is considered lower mid coast. Eastern Plant and WildWalkWays are in the town of Georgetown, Maine which is right next to Bath.
